Job Overview:

The Public Entity Labor and Employment Associate Attorney will manage labor and employment cases, collaborate with senior attorneys, and provide legal advice to public sector clients. They will participate in trials, arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and handle discovery processes.

 

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to public sector clients, including cities, counties, and special districts
  • Prepare labor and employment cases for trial/arbitration, actively participating in legal proceedings
  • Demonstrate knowledge of public sector labor and employment law, including collective bargaining and employee benefit issues
  • Conduct depositions of witnesses and experts, and handle law and motion issues related to discovery or workplace investigations
  • Develop and execute discovery plans, including responding to written discovery
  • Draft motions for summary judgment and other legal documents
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis within specified timelines
  • Assist senior attorneys in providing labor and employment advice and preparing legal memorandums
  • Interface with clients professionally and convey legal and strategic matters effectively
  • Take ownership of cases and develop litigation plans or courses of action

 

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience handling labor and employment matters, predominantly for public and/or private clients
  • Experience with public sector clients preferred
  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law in California

 

Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills, particularly in drafting motions for summary judgment
  • Strong legal research and analysis abilities
  • Proficiency in managing discovery processes and written discovery responses
  • Experience in providing legal counsel and participating in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings
  • Professionalism in client interactions and conveying legal and strategic competence
