A law firm in San Diego is seeking a Patent Agent with expertise in Chemistry to join its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group, specifically the Patent Development and Strategy Subgroup. The ideal candidate must have experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, particularly in chemical technologies, and should also be able to handle broader technologies in mechanical and light electrical engineering. Litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark experience are preferred. The candidate must possess a degree in chemical engineering or chemistry and must be registered with the USPTO. Duties:

  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in chemical technologies
  • Handling patent prosecution matters in mechanical and light electrical engineering
  • Collaborating with attorneys to develop patent strategies and portfolios for clients
  • Conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses
  • Providing technical expertise and advice on patent-related matters to clients
  • Assisting with patent litigation, opinions, licensing, and due diligence projects
  • Managing and maintaining patent dockets and deadlines
  • Staying updated on developments in patent law and regulations

 

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications
  • Experience in chemical technologies with the ability to handle mechanical and light electrical engineering technologies
  • Litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark experience preferred
  • Degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • Registration with the USPTO is required

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry

 

Certifications:

Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution procedures and practices
