Summary: The Associate Trade Compliance Counsel will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support for a variety of trade compliance matters at KLA, a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The person in this role will have the opportunity to add immediate value to KLA’s global trade compliance program by supporting licensing and trade compliance due-diligence activities, coordinating changes in country-specific import and export laws and regulations, and providing legal guidance and advice in support of KLA’s global trade compliance program. This is a full-time position located in either Ann Arbor, MI or Milpitas, CA and offers a competitive salary range of $112,800 - $191,800 annually. Responsibilities: - Gain a solid understanding of KLA’s trade-compliance goals and challenges in the . and internationally, specifically in China, and support the identification and implementation of appropriate legal strategies and risk-management processes and controls. - Identify, analyze, and support complex issues pertaining to . trade risk and collaborate with team members to develop strategies for timely resolution. - Examine potential trade-compliance deficiencies and provide effective solutions, such as developing clear policies and procedures, drafting correspondence to government agencies, and evaluating global regulatory and licensing requirements. - Advise global trade team members, product managers, sales, operations, engineering, and executives. - Work with outside counsel in various jurisdictions on trade-compliance requirements and related company processes. - Develop and conduct practical and accessible trade-compliance training. - Partner with the Global Trade Compliance team on operational and strategic trade matters. - Support trade compliance activities related to merger-and-acquisition due diligence and business integration. - Furnish regular, clear communication on legal issues and opportunities to internal teams to assist with risk identification and mitigation, and the development of appropriate processes and strategies. - Support internal investigations, audits, and risk assessments related to trade compliance. - Occasional travel to domestic and international offices. - Support the Legal and Compliance Organization on other projects, initiatives, and strategic opportunities. Qualifications: - Law degree from an accredited . law school and admission to the bar in Michigan as a member in good standing. - At least 3-5 years of legal experience focusing on trade compliance matters. - Experience at a . multinational technology company or in the semiconductor industry preferred. - Technical/engineering background a plus. - Proficiency advising on . trade-compliance regulations and programs, with particular focus on trade law. - Self-starter and great teammate with a desire to be on the cutting edge of . trade law. - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with clients at all levels of the organization. - Strong and independent demeanor with the ability to stand up to business pressures and strong client personalities. - Persistent and comfortable exercising independent judgment to acquire the best business outcome while containing legal risk. - Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently. - Drive to continuously improve professional skills and competence and to improve KLA’s global trade compliance function.
