# Attorney - Government Advice and Elected Officials Group The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is looking for a Civil Counsel Attorney to join its Government Advice and Elected Officials Group. This position is a great opportunity to work on a wide range of legal matters related to County government and its agencies. The successful candidate will be helping to ensure the County is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. ## Job Details **Pay Range:** Full Pay Range: $77, - $148, annually **Job Type:** Classified **Department:** County Attorney **Location:** Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid) **Application Deadline:** Open Until Filled ## Responsibilities The Civil Counsel attorney will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: * Providing legal advice and representation to County officers, including the Board of Supervisors, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Sheriff, Recorder, Treasurer, School Superintendent, and County Attorney * Providing legal advice to many Departments in County government * Representing Maricopa County, its agencies, and employees in State and Federal Courts * Drafting motions, reports, and other documents * Negotiating and working with opposing counsel and others to assist in achieving compliance * Performing complex legal work and analysis as it pertains to advice and litigation issues * Conducting research and analyzing legal issues * Handling a broad spectrum of civil claims as assigned * Attending court to present and defend the client * Drafting various documents, including reports and updates, motions, memorandums, and various other court documents * Assisting with supervising and mentoring * Ensuring compliance with the continuing legal education requirements and other requirements imposed by the State Bar of Arizona ## Qualifications The successful candidate must have: * Juris Doctorate (Professional) degree from an ABA-accredited law school * At least two years of experience in civil practice, which includes providing advice to government agencies * Successful candidates must be admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona and be in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona at the time of application * Valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire The Maricopa County Attorney's Office also values the following qualifications: * Experience practicing law in a government setting * Exceptional research and writing skills * Experience handling direct civil trial in the federal and state court * Experience in state and federal appellate courts * Experience in training and development, providing legal advice to police agencies, and statistical analysis ## Benefits The Maricopa County Attorney's Office offers a comprehensive benefits package, including: * Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) employer * Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRHP) for attorney’s * Opportunities for growth and development within Maricopa County * Exceptional work-life balance with teleworking options * Low-cost, high-value healthcare for you and your qualifying dependents * Enrollment in Arizona State Retirement System * Paid vacation, sick, and parental (birth/adoption) leaves * 100% employer match on Day 1 of the State Retirement System * Extensive wellness program with $60 monthly medical premium discounts * Employee discounts for goods and services ## Selection Procedure The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is looking for the most qualified candidates.
