Responsibilities of Bar Counsel

As Bar Counsel, you will represent the State Bar in disciplinary, disability, reinstatement, and unauthorized practice of law matters. This includes conducting investigations, drafting and filing pleadings, conducting hearings, and making recommendations for disposition and form of discipline. You will also work with other departments and provide guidance to Independent Bar Counsel.

Requirements for the Role

To be considered for this position, you must have a . and a minimum of five years of successful practical legal experience, including litigation/trial experience. You must also be an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Arizona. A thorough understanding of office management practices and procedures, as well as knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct and Diversion Guidelines, is required for this role.

Skills and Abilities

In addition to the specific requirements, the ideal candidate for Bar Counsel should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail. You should also have the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism and maintain a high level of ethical standards. Flexibility and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are also important for this role.

Computer skills are essential, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with law office technology and practice management applications. A valid Arizona driver's license and access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage may also be required for travel within the state.
