A law firm in Palo Alto is seeking a Patent Agent - Technology with a focus on electrical arts, particularly display and battery technology, and optics. The candidate will be responsible for:

 

Job Overview:

  • Supervised by an intellectual property partner
  • Daily contact and guidance from all partners in the practice group
  • Protecting inventions with technical merit while assuming significant client responsibilities
  • Providing high-quality legal services to domestic and foreign clients

 

Duties:

  • Preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office
  • Performing prior art searches and analysis
  • Conducting patentability analysis
  • Engaging in IP due diligence
  • Developing client relationships through practice development activities
  • Preparing substantive client correspondence
  • Instructing local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
  • Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
  • Analyzing scientific or technical documents for patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
  • Converting prior provisional applications into utility applications
  • Converting foreign filed applications into . applications
  • Converting . applications into foreign applications

 

Requirements:

  • Registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam
  • Bachelor’s degree (or graduate degree) preferably in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • 2+ years of experience prosecuting or examining patent applications in the electrical arts, with a focus on display and battery technology and optics

 

Skills:

  • Excellent writing and research abilities
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational skills
