A law firm in Overland Park, KS, is seeking a Workers' Compensation Attorney with 3-7 years of experience in defending workers' compensation and/or insurance defense. The ideal candidate must have a . and be licensed in MO and KS, or have reciprocity. The role involves gathering and reviewing medical evidence, conducting depositions, performing legal research, and litigating cases before workers' compensation judges or referees. The attorney will represent the interests of the employer or insurer at various proceedings, negotiate settlements, and manage workers' compensation costs. Duties:

  • Gather and review medical evidence and records.
  • Take depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
  • Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
  • Draft pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
  • Litigate cases before workers' compensation judges or referees.
  • Represent the employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
  • Communicate with claims representatives.
  • Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases and alert management to concerns.
  • Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
  • Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
  • Compile and submit reports required by company management.
  • Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company/employer.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • . and licensed in MO and KS, or reciprocity is a must.
  • 3-7 years of experience defending workers' compensation and/or insurance defense.
  • Proven track record of progressive experience in workers’ compensation defense work; general litigation experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
  • Microsoft Word experience is required; Time Matters legal software experience is preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, research, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent telephone and writing skills.
