A law firm in East Palo Alto is seeking a Patent Development and Strategy Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate should effectively communicate with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties, produce high-quality work products, meet deadlines, and foster positive work relationships. Additionally, the candidate must have experience in patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence. Transferable skills, strong academic backgrounds, and prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm are preferred. A degree in chemical engineering or chemistry, admission to the state bar, and registration with the USPTO are required.

 

Duties:

  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, and other professionals
  • Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence promptly
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product
  • Meet deadlines and expectations for work duties
  • Foster positive work relationships within the firm and with clients
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activities as needed for job responsibilities
  • Perform other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned
  • Conduct patent prosecution, client counseling, and drafting patent applications
  • Provide freedom to operate opinions and conduct due diligence activities

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Transferable skills and strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools
  • Prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • Licensed to practice law in the state.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Juris Doctor (.) degree

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • Juris Doctor (.) degree

 

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of Massachusetts
  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
