Duties:

  • Handle labor and employment matters for public and/or private clients, with a focus on public sector clients.
  • Prepare labor and employment cases for trial/arbitration, including participation in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Provide legal advice and support on collective bargaining, administrative proceedings before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), and employee benefit/PERS issues.
  • Conduct depositions of percipient witnesses and expert witnesses in labor and employment cases.
  • Draft motions for summary judgment and other legal documents in labor and employment cases.
  • Develop and execute discovery plans.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on specific timelines.
  • Support senior attorneys in providing labor and employment advice, including preparing legal memorandums and opinions.
  • Interface with clients professionally and competently on legal and strategic issues.
  • Take ownership of matters and develop litigation plans or courses of action.
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and impeccable judgment.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience handling labor and employment matters, with a focus on public sector clients, is preferred.
  • Experience with trials, arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and collective bargaining.
  • Strong deposition and law and motion experience.
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent follow-through.
