Job Overview:

A law firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Mid-Level Medical Devices and Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with a strong academic background, significant law firm or industry experience, and exceptional writing and communication skills. The ideal candidate should possess a degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering, with other engineering disciplines considered if coupled with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products. Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required for this position.

Duties:

• Conducting patent preparation and prosecution activities related to medical devices and mechanical engineering inventions.
• Collaborating with inventors, engineers, and clients to understand technical aspects of inventions.
• Analyzing patentability and conducting prior art searches.
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Providing legal advice on intellectual property matters.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• High academic achievement with a degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering.
• Acceptable alternative: Other engineering disciplines and substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products.
• Admission to the USPTO.
• JD required

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering.

Certifications:

• Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
