# Assistant Attorney General, Education Section (OAG00128) The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is looking for an experienced attorney to join their team as the Assistant Attorney General for the Education Section. This position offers the challenge and opportunity of public service, a professional environment, and competitive salaries and benefits. The successful candidate will provide legal services and representation to various education agencies reporting to the Secretary of Education. ## Job Duties The Assistant Attorney General, Education Section will provide a wide variety of legal services and representation to the various education agencies and boards, including the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, New College Institute, and the Virginia Department of Education (child care licensing). The attorney will be expected to advise decision-makers throughout the organization on the legal risks and obligations associated with their duties. They will also represent the agencies/institutions before regulatory bodies and to third parties in pre-litigation and transactional matters. Additionally, this individual will provide other legal services to the Commonwealth as directed by the Office of the Attorney General. ## Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion. Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are necessary. A minimum of five years’ experience in the general practice of law or in advising state agencies is required. This position will be based at the Office of the Attorney General in Richmond. ## Salary The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience. This position is classified as Pay Band UG. ## Special Instructions Applicants will need to provide their Certificate of Disability (COD) provided by a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor within the Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services (DARS), or the Department for the Blind & Vision Impaired (DBVI).
