A law firm in Seattle is seeking an Electric Regulatory Associate Attorney with 5+ years of experience. The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of the Federal Power Act, PURPA, and other federal energy laws, along with experience in FERC cost-of-service ratemaking, transmission service, market-based rate authorizations, and wholesale energy market rules. Strong analytical research and writing skills, exceptional communication skills, and experience before state utility commissions or federal and state courts on energy regulatory matters are desirable.

 

Duties:

  • Utilize foundational knowledge of the Federal Power Act, PURPA, and other federal energy laws in legal analysis and research.
  • Interpret and apply FERC cost-of-service ratemaking policies and practices.
  • Handle open access transmission service and interconnection matters.
  • Assist in obtaining market-based rate authorizations.
  • Navigate market rules for wholesale energy, capacity, and ancillary services.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and produce well-written memoranda and briefs.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent clients before state utility commissions or federal and state courts on energy regulatory matters.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar and eligibility to practice law.
  • 5+ years of electric regulatory experience.
  • Strong understanding of the Federal Power Act and other relevant federal energy laws.
  • Experience with FERC cost-of-service ratemaking, transmission service, and market-based rate authorizations.
  • Exceptional analytical research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience before state utility commissions or federal and state courts is a plus.
