A law firm in Seattle is seeking a Mid-level Medical Devices and Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with a strong background in biomedical or mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate will have a JD and admission to the USPTO, coupled with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products. This position requires excellent academic achievement, solid law firm or industry experience, and outstanding writing and communication skills.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct patent preparation and prosecution activities related to medical devices and mechanical engineering innovations.
  • Analyze and interpret technical documents, including engineering drawings and specifications, to support patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and clients to understand the intricacies of inventions and develop comprehensive patent strategies.
  • Perform legal research and analysis to support patentability opinions and responses to office actions.
  • Draft and review patent applications, responses, and related legal documents.

 

Requirements:

  • A degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering is essential. Other engineering disciplines, combined with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products, will be considered.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) are required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.

 

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

 

Skills:

  • Strong background in biomedical or mechanical engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of patent laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with inventors, engineers, and clients.
