LawCrossing Adds 16,000 New Legal Jobs in Spite of Recession
August 06, 2008
Pasadena, CA — LawCrossing has been pretty active of late in its ongoing efforts to post every legal job it can find. In fact, more than 16,000 new legal jobs were posted in just the last seven days.

LawCrossing, the revolutionary legal job board, recently noted that the US is in need of more and more legal professionals in specific areas to solve the increasing legal woes of millions of US citizens who have been hit hard by the economic downturn. Additionally, LawCrossing has now promised to redouble its efforts to boost the number of attorneys, associates, and paralegals.

Seconding the results of a recently released Russell Research study involving over 1,000 full-time employees of different demographics, LawCrossing's own statistics clearly demonstrate the fact that many employees are eager to find lawyers who can help solve their legal problems with specific expertise. What's more, legal woes have affected job productivity and morale in many companies' workplaces.

About 96 legal professionals were recently laid off at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, the firm's second round of layoffs this year due to the mortgage and credit crisis. It has been reported that of the 33 attorneys who were laid off earlier this year, 10 have not landed another legal job yet. According to several legal recruiters, these attorneys should not rely on standard job searches in this challenging market, but should be willing to tweak, if not totally alter, their practice focus, or relocate in search of a new job.

Meanwhile, the legal community has not been satisfied about their compensation of late. According to the Associates Survey 2008, satisfaction over compensation among midlevel associates has been dipping since 2007. That said, associates have become more tolerant of the decreasing payouts that are offered to them because of the shortage of legal jobs in different venues. The survey, which involved 7,259 associates from 180 firms, showed that 81% of the respondents took out law school loans, and 77% said that they still have a balance. This shows that many legal associates fear losing their present job over pay issues in today's challenging market.

"Legal professionals are bearing the brunt of the recession in more ways than one," says Harrison Barnes, CEO and founder of LawCrossing. "They have to handle legal problems related to other layoffs, and take care not to lose their own jobs, too. But what is most important, if one does need a new job, is where one actually searches for legal jobs. If one searches for them in the right place, one is bound to end up with a good job."

Barnes adds, "LawCrossing is the pioneer in introducing new search features for finding good legal jobs and is the largest legal job board in the world. The site provides resources for law students, attorneys, and legal staff alike, with active jobs totaling up to 132,133 legal jobs at present. LawCrossing tracks the hiring needs of over 250,000 employers every day."

LawCrossing provides instant access to a comprehensive pool of listings based on your particular area of interest. Unlike other job-search and career sites, LawCrossing weeds out spam and jobs outside one's niche, allowing job seekers to search efficiently and specifically.
