Get back on it guys, and start treating your employees right. Withholding pay for months at a time is ethical under no circumstances. Withholding last paychecks forever is theft.
The best of this firm is really the subject matter you get to work with, and the challenges that come with taking on powerful parties. But just as in the seemingly bipolar partners, the extreme ups of winning on big ticket arguments was counterbalanced by the extremely poor treatment of anyone who works at Garteiser Honea. Extreme high and low with this firm in that regard.
As attorneys, this firm is sometimes extremely ill prepared and unorganized. This comes from the leadership. The partners are haphazard in their approach and management and often are the problem. However, the firm does have the experience to win some very big cases. And where the partners are inclined to actually work, this happens. As a firm to work for, avoid this place. It has its uses. For example, experience wise this firm will throw you some big ticket arguments. However, the way they treat the people who work for them is downright appalling. There were frequent periods where they would withhold checks for months. They expected me to be on call 24/7, and work as a fully employed associate would, but without any of the benefits and securities of a full time employee. And at the end of it all, they outright stole from me by not paying me for a full month's worth of work. A very busy and stressful month that I would have much rather spent with my kids rather than working for some of the most miserable people I've ever met. This theft occurred even though they acknowledged my services were rendered as stated in my billing. They did this to the associate who left before I did as well. At the end of the day, the partners who run this firm are very unethical attorneys. I'm not sure if the firm's funds are grossly mismanaged or if the partners only look out for #1. But my life descended into an utter and living hell while working for this firm, as far as security and being able to rely on my employer in any way whatsoever. I questioned why I didn't just stay with my position at the local bar association that I was in prior to working for this firm many times. Only work here if you want to feel constantly underappreciated and jerked around when it comes to being payed anywhere near on time--feeling like you have to beg for what you are owed sucks. If you like the feeling of working for an employer who has zero integrity insofar as fulfilling its most minimal obligations to those who work for it, this place is for you. Oh yeah, and when they are done using you up, they will probably steal your last paycheck on top of it all as a parting gift of sorts. Good luck job hunting, but if you're a lawyer looking for work avoid this place like the plague.
I worked for all but Scott Fuller. Avoid the other two, both Garteiser and Honea, all I really have the knowledge to say.
Winning big arguments against top firms and incredibly powerful companies. I won an argument that is seldom, if ever, won on against VIZIO, for example, on a Rule 41 issue that is a universal loser. I liked that this firm liked to fight. I won on this argument all the way up and through the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. And there were many opportunities to take on a d win arguments against similarly powerful companies.
