Established in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable entity by Georgetown University Law Center, DLA Piper, and Arent Fox, DCALF is on a mission to serve the often overlooked population of D.C. residents with modest incomes who do not qualify for free legal aid but cannot afford the rates charged by most lawyers.

With conservative estimates suggesting that well over 100,000 people in the District fall into this category, it is no wonder that over 90% of those who appear in the District's Landlord/Tenant and Family Courts do so without legal representation. DCALF aims to bridge this gap by providing affordable legal services to those who need it the most.
