What would you, or others, like to see changed at employer?
It would be nice if people were more willing to help others. Teamwork is never a bad thing, and more of it within the firm can only help us all out.
What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
The building and amenities here are very good, which creates an environment that is very conducive to getting work done.
What did you not like about this institution?
People here are not very willing to go out of their way to help others, although they remain professional during interactions. It's not that everyone is rude, but rather focused on getting their own work done.

Hiring Criteria
Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Ltd. follows the set of hiring criteria outlined below.
Because the firm's practice is largely technology based, in the patent area, we primarily seek candidates with backgrounds in the hard sciences (e.g., chemistry or molecular biology) or engineering (preferably chemical, electrical, mechanical or computer), but exceptional candidates with other technical backgrounds will be considered. A background in hard science is not required for consideration in the trademark area. The firm places particular emphasis on analytical and writing skills, and superior law school credentials.
*At present, a bonus of $100.00 is earned for each billed hour over 1800 hours. For example, $160,000 is earned by an entry-level associate under the current bonus structure for 2000 hours billed.

Summer associate program
Leydig, Voit & Mayer hires law students each year to participate in its Summer Associate Program. Summer associates have the opportunity to engage in a broad range of activities equivalent to those of a first year associate, including legal research, brief writing, pre-trial discovery and patent and/or trademark prosecution. The firm offers valuable exposure to the courtroom by involving summer associates in all aspects of trial preparation, including accompanying attorneys to hearings, motion calls, depositions and portions of trials that are held in Chicago. Daily work assignments are overseen by a mentor, who provides guidance and ensures that each individual receives a well-rounded learning experience. In addition, the summer associates are typically partnered with a first or second year associate who is available to provide support and assistance throughout the summer.
