Advice to law firm management: The firm needs to "get with the times" in certain ways - some ways of doing things that have stuck around out of tradition don't make sense any more. More emphasis on telecommuting and other changes could make resource utilization more efficient, and some of these freed-up resources could be distributed to everyone accordingly.

Pros: Relatively interesting work. Decent emphasis on work-life balance. Most individuals were friendly and pleasant to work with. Had some of the kinds of advantages you might expect from a typical small/niche firm.

Cons: Benefits were expensive and otherwise below-average. Pay was only OK. Some elements of corporate culture just seemed too conservative or stuck in the past. This was a bit ironic, considering it's a smaller firm, but it seemed like several people were possibly causing this.

Advice to law firm management: The HR staff should be taking all complaints seriously. When that happens, the morale and attitudes will be better and no one will feel the need to make connections and back stab each other in order to have someone important listen to them and their complaints. This shouldn't be an issue if everyone didn't have a high school mentality.

Pros: In this firm, the people here all get along really well and work in a very professional setting. Everyone is friendly and willing to help with workloads, which is a huge asset. Along with the workloads, the hours I work are flexible and based on how much you are willing to work (hours and billing) which gives me a perfect work/balance life. Turnover here isn't bad; a lot of coworkers have been here for years.

Cons: The environment is fantastic on the surface, but below that is where we have all the problems. Although the firm is friendly and professional, politicking is a huge factor here. There are times when someone will go behind someone's back and accuse an action happened, when it didn't. The personalities here are kind, but the motives are always questioned. I feel like there isn't any trust here. Along with this, most complaints aren't dealt with in HR. The lawyers are also very quick tempered which causes a lot of stress for everyone.

Loeb & Loeb was established in 1909. Founders Edwin and Joseph Loeb played a major role in the development of the city of Los Angeles in the early 1900s, helping establish such institutions as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Union Bank of California. In 1986, Loeb & Loeb merged with Hess Segal, a New York firm of comparable quality and vintage. The firm has since undergone focused and strategic expansion in key markets. In 1994, Loeb & Loeb opened an office in Nashville as a specialized extension of our Music Industry and Entertainment and Media practices. In 2003, the firm opened its office in Chicago with five attorneys from an IP boutique. Today, the growing Chicago office has more than 30 attorneys practicing in IP and patent law, advanced media and technology, finance, corporate, bankruptcy, and business litigation. Active in China for nearly 20 years, the firm opened a representative office in Beijing in 2009 to service a rapidly growing number of Asian clients and to support a robust international practice. In that same year, the firm expanded its transactional and regulatory platform with the addition of a premier Energy Practice team and opened the Washington, DC, office. The DC office has since grown to include a leading group of trusts and estates attorneys, who add to Loeb & Loeb’s national capability in this area. Most recently, the firm further expanded its practice in Asia with the launch of a Hong Kong affiliate office, which is initially focused on capital markets transactions, as well as mergers and acquisitions and general corporate and commercial transactions.
