It is an honor to work with these attorneys. They have the highest ethical standards in every aspect of their work. It is inspiring to see the quality of their work paired with their ethical standards on a daily basis. They truly care about their clients and the impact of their work.
First, the review states that we are in an unfavorable location. For 28 years we have occupied the same spacious offices in the same high rise tower that fronts on the main downtown commercial avenue -- Congress Avenue at 5th Street in Austin, Texas. We are located five blocks down Congress Avenue from the Texas Capitol, in the heart of the business district, and in the prime real estate area of the city. The review states that “parking is limited.” For 28 years we have provided free parking for all staff in our building’s protected and enclosed garage. Our parking allocation from the building’s owner has always accommodated our staff, and it is one of the benefits we offer. The review indicates that management is “strict.” We may be one of the few business law firms in the city that has never hired an office manager. We have always trusted our staff to be self-managing. They set their personal leave and vacations with advance notice to all co-employees, likewise with respect to personal appointments. They do not clock in or out. They regulate their own work schedules. Some work from home on certain days. Even as to our associate attorneys we have never imposed any hourly billing quota. Our staff does not work nights or weekends. And with extremely rare exceptions, neither do our attorneys. Finally, with regard to promotions, it is not possible to promote staff members to attorneys without them first obtaining a law degree. We have, however, on several occasions “promoted” file clerks/secretaries to paralegal positions (but because our firm is a “flat” firm without hierarchy we do not necessarily refer to those changes in responsibilities as “promotions.”)
I loved the employees, but management, ifyou want to go anywhere you need to seriously consider moving to a new location, and I think there is potential here but when you point fingers at people all the time it creates a frustrating atmosphere.
One of the nice things about this firm was that the coworkers were pleasant to work with and be aroundand almost everyone was helpful and understanding.People are willing to change days if you had something unexpected happen.
There is a lot wrong here.Management is very strict and it creates a fairly stressful atmosphere. The location is in a bad part of town with limited parking.Pay is below average with hard to obtain promotions. There is no recognition for hard workers.
Thank you.
