Job Title: Assistant General Counsel - Transactional
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as in-house counsel providing a full range of services, including representation in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies.
- Advocate discipline and admission cases in the California Supreme Court.
- Provide legal advice to the Board of Trustees and various entities, executives, and programmatic clients of the State Bar.
- Engage in legal advice and representation in areas such as litigation, admissions and discipline, antitrust, open meeting acts, bankruptcy, public records, collections, contracts, copyright, governance, labor and employment, legislation, regulations and rules, real estate, regulatory work, and general corporate matters.
- Participate in requests for “second-look” of disciplinary complaints closed by the Office of Chief Trial Counsel.
- Negotiate and draft a wide range of contracts, provide legal advice on contract terms, and identify and mitigate legal risks.
- Advise on procurement processes and manage insurance-related matters, including policy review and claims coordination.
- Advise on laws such as the California Public Records Act, Political Reform Act, Bagley-Keene Opening Meeting Act, Government Claims Act, governance, and rule interpretation.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, providing solution-oriented advice.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and embody the State Bar's core values of growth mindset, clarity, respect, and excellence.
Education and Experience Information:
Attorney III:
Education:
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
Experience:
- Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in litigation and/or legal advice.
- Demonstrated verifiable reputation for integrity with no history of disciplinary offenses.
- Must be an active member, in good standing, of **Members Only**.
Attorney IV:
Education:
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in litigation and/or legal advice.
- Demonstrated verifiable reputation for integrity with no history of disciplinary offenses.
- Must be an active member, in good standing, of **Members Only**.
Salary Information:
- Annual Salary Range: $140,123 - $231,023
- FLSA: Exempt / Non-Union Represented
