The Assistant General Counsel, Corporate Functions will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to key global corporate functions at Daiichi Sankyo. The ideal candidate will have a JD from a reputable law school and be admitted to the bar, as well as have at least 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. They should also have experience in specific business support functions, such as HR, IT, and compliance, either in-house or at a law firm. The role will report to the direct manager and will be assigned to one or more key corporate functions, which may include Global Human Resources, Global Corporate Communications, Global Government Affairs, Global Finance, IT/DX, Global Compliance, or Global Business Development.
The Assistant General Counsel will have the following responsibilities:
- Acts as legal advisor for at least one key and/or a combination of Global Corporate Functions, providing legal advice and counsel on various areas of the business in the . and globally.
- Leads or participates in cross-functional project management teams to address company-driven initiatives or special projects relevant to assigned corporate functions.
- Monitors current developments in assigned legal areas and provides updates to senior management and other business leaders.
- Develops and presents training materials on legal issues related to assigned business areas.
- Works independently or collaboratively with other departments to develop and implement corporate-level policies, guidance documents, and training for employees.
- Provides legal support for maintaining an effective compliance program, including reviewing policies, training, and auditing projects.
- Advises on issues related to financial transactions, procurement, securities, tax, and other financial operations.
- Advises on data privacy, data management, and artificial intelligence in the context of IT/DX.
- Handles legal aspects of licensing, co-promotion/co-development, strategic/financial investments, companion diagnostic, academic research organization, and acquisition deals in the context of business development.
- Develops contract templates, reviews agreements, and manages outside counsel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required, JD from a reputable law school and bar admission required.
- 7 or more years of post-law school experience, with at least 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in specific business support functions, such as HR, IT, and compliance, either in-house or at a law firm.
- Eligible to practice law in the state of New Jersey and maintain good standing at all times.
- Ability to travel up to 5%.
