Job Title:
Applied Researcher II

Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with a cross-functional team, including data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers, to deliver AI-powered products that transform customer interactions with their finances.
- Utilize a broad stack of technologies such as Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs to extract insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data.
- Develop AI foundation models through various stages including design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
- Engage in applied research to integrate the latest AI developments into next-generation customer experiences.
- Translate complex technical work into tangible business objectives using strong interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience Information:
Basic Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in or completion of a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields, with the degree obtained on or before the scheduled start date, plus 2 years of experience in Applied Research.
- Alternatively, an . in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields plus 4 years of experience in Applied Research.

Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience and publications related to the pre-training of large language models and optimization of training for large deep learning models.
- Member of a team that has trained a large language model from scratch (10B+ parameters, 500B+ tokens).
- Publications in deep learning theory and at conferences such as ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.
- Expertise in optimization techniques, including model sparsification, quantization, training parallelism, and gradient checkpointing.
- Experience in finetuning large language models and knowledge of transfer learning, model adaptation, and guidance.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this role varies by location:
- Cambridge, MA: $257,300 - $293,700
- McLean, VA: $257,300 - $293,700
- New York, NY: $280,700 - $320,400
- San Francisco, CA: $280,700 - $320,400
- San Jose, CA: $280,700 - $320,400

Candidates hired to work in other locations will have salaries adjusted according to the local pay range. The role includes eligibility for performance-based incentive compensation, which may involve cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
