Internship Application:

The New Jersey Division of Law offers law students the opportunity to serve as interns in their Fall or Spring Semesters or during their Summer breaks. The program provides a valuable experience for students interested in pursuing a career in law, as they work alongside experienced attorneys and gain firsthand knowledge of the legal profession.

During the internship, students will be assigned to one of the Division's sections, based on their interests. They will be supervised by a Deputy Attorney General and have overall supervision by an Assistant Attorney General. This allows for a well-rounded experience and exposure to various aspects of lawyering. Students will have the opportunity to perform a full range of law clerk responsibilities, including research and writing, and attend court proceedings, meetings with clients, depositions, and other special events. They will also be eligible to participate in training sessions offered to Deputy Attorneys General throughout the year.

The Summer Session, which runs from June through August, provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience during their break from school. The application deadline for this session is March 15, giving students ample time to prepare and submit their materials.

To be considered for a position in the program, interested law students must submit the Internship Application, along with their resume, legal writing sample, and most recent grade report, to the appropriate recruiter. Interviews and offers are made on a rolling basis, so it is encouraged to apply as soon as possible. If offered a position, completion of a Confidential Background Investigation Clearance Form is required.

The Division of Law has offices in Trenton, Voorhees, and Newark. Students can indicate their preference for location and will be assigned accordingly.
