Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
The **Members Only** is seeking law students to volunteer as law clerks within its Juvenile Protection Division. The primary responsibility of the law clerks is to advocate for youth within the justice system. Clerks will work closely with dedicated Juvenile Defenders, gaining invaluable experience in case preparation, substantive skills, and developing written work products necessary for future employment as a criminal defense attorney.

Key tasks for law clerks include:
- Observing proceedings in Juvenile Court.
- Drafting modification motions.
- Locating and interviewing witnesses.
- Visiting clients in detention and placements.
- Drafting letters and memos.
- Assisting with case development both in and out of the courtroom.
- Conducting research.

Law clerks are expected to zealously represent their clients, working under the supervision of assigned staff attorneys. They play a crucial role as part of the defense team and are trained on issues like child development, best practices, and successful juvenile reform initiatives from across the country. The internship experience is tailored to meet the academic and professional goals of each individual.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the law clerk position should be current law students or recent law school graduates. The organization is looking for individuals who exhibit strong written and oral communication skills, adaptability in dynamic environments, and a strong work ethic. Preference is given to applicants who have experience working with juveniles and who have completed coursework in Criminal Procedure.

The law clerk positions are available during the spring semester (January-May), fall semester (September-December), and summer (May-August). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with selections made by individual district offices. Candidates are encouraged to specify their preferred office locations, noting that only the Montgomery County and Baltimore City offices are accessible via public transportation.

Salary Information:
These positions are unpaid volunteer roles. However, the organization supports externs seeking academic credit for their work and sponsors grant or other funding applications where applicable.
