Job Title: Attorney, Ethics and Compliance Division

Job Responsibilities:
The Attorney position within the Ethics and Compliance Division of the organization encompasses a range of responsibilities that involve both counseling and litigation-related roles. The primary duties include advising City Hall, elected officials, and officers and employees of the Law Department and other City agencies on various topics. These topics include legal ethics, conflicts, privileges, federal grants, Medicare compliance, and outside employment. Attorneys in the division are also tasked with conducting internal and external training sessions related to these areas.
Additionally, the division is responsible for investigating and reporting on whistleblower and employment disciplinary matters. It acts as a liaison to the Conflicts of Interest Board on Chapter 68 inquiries, ensuring compliance with ethics regulations. Division attorneys represent City attorneys and Assistant District Attorneys before the attorney grievance committees. They also review and provide guidance on sanctions and representation matters, which includes conducting representation interviews.
The position offers the flexibility to work from home under certain conditions. There are two programs available: one that allows for limited and irregular remote work, and a Citywide pilot program that permits two set days of remote work per week. Participation in the pilot program requires more than 50% staff coverage each day and may necessitate attending in-person responsibilities on remote workdays if required.
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants for the Attorney position must be graduates of an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of legal experience. While the minimum requirement is one year, applicants with at least three years of post-law school legal experience are preferred. Candidates must be admitted and in good standing in New York State. This position is particularly suitable for attorneys with strong legal analysis and writing skills who have an interest in ethics, compliance, and legal advisory work, along with exposure to litigation-related matters.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is between $87, and $175,.
