Job Title: Research Analyst

Job Responsibilities:
The role of the Research Analyst at the law firm involves supporting various practice groups by exercising discretion and independent judgment under the general direction of the Legal Information Center Manager. The Research Analyst is primarily responsible for providing in-depth research and reference services to attorneys and staff. This professional library position requires maintaining professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and firm matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Independently assessing incoming research requests to identify scope, complexity, and specific data required.
- Applying critical thinking to determine relevant and effective questions during the “reference interview” to deliver accurate, relevant, and timely results within constraints.
- Collaborating closely with customers, practice groups, and stakeholders to ensure clarity in research objectives and expectations.
- Performing conventional and sophisticated legal and non-legal research using online tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg, and others.
- Providing creative and strategic solutions to unique research queries.
- Conducting research in various practice areas including corporations, securities law, banking and finance, litigation, employment/benefits, government/global trade, IP, bankruptcy, tax, environmental law, and real estate.
- Delivering accurate, relevant, and timely research results to practice groups, Business Development & Marketing Department, industry teams, recruiting department, and strategic committees in alignment with the firm’s strategic and business plans.
- Evaluating and recommending new publications and research services to develop the firm’s information resources.
- Seeking collaboration opportunities across administrative teams to enhance deliverables and align outcomes with organizational goals and client needs.
- Making informed decisions on the best research tools while staying abreast of new technologies in the legal research market.
- Monitoring legal developments from local, national, and international sources.
- Performing other projects and duties as assigned or required to meet firm goals and objectives.

Education and Experience Information:
- A Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from a program accredited by the American Library Association is required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of previous law library experience is required.
- Prior experience working in a law firm is preferred.
- Experience and proficiency in legal and business research are required.
- Business & Competitive Intelligence research experience is required.
- General familiarity and awareness of emerging AI technologies in the legal landscape are preferred.

Technical Skills:
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products are required.
- Knowledge of various search strategies and navigation using Internet search engines is required.
- Analytical and technical skills with comprehensive knowledge of library principles and practices are required.
- Experience with legal and business research tools such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, and others is required.
- Familiarity with automated library systems is preferred.
- The ability to keep current on new developments in online legal and business research is required.
- Maintaining a network of information resources outside of the firm and participating in continuing education is required.

Salary Information:
The typical pay scale for this position ranges between $98,400 and $130,200, although the actual wage or salary could vary based on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and internal pay alignment.
