### Job Title: Law Clerk 2025 - 2026

### Job Responsibilities:
Law clerks in the **Members Only** are tasked with a range of responsibilities depending on their assigned court. They work closely with judges and other court staff to facilitate the judicial process. The primary duties include:

- **Supreme Court Law Clerks**: Work with justices on complex legal cases, perform legal research, prepare written memoranda on novel legal issues, and assist in the preparation of opinions.
- **Appellate Division Law Clerks**: Conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions.
- **Trial Court Law Clerks**: Gain practical experience by observing judicial proceedings, attending conferences with attorneys and judges, and receiving training in mediation. They mediate small claims cases and summarize information for judges.
- **Tax Court Law Clerks**: Perform duties similar to Appellate Division and Trial Court clerks but do not mediate cases.
- **Assignment Judge Law Clerks**: Learn all aspects of court administration and assist with processing emergent motions.
- **Family Division Law Clerks**: Conduct legal research, assist with remote proceedings, communicate with litigants, and draft legal opinions and orders.
- **Civil Division Law Clerks**: Prepare bench memoranda, perform legal research, draft legal orders, and manage the motion calendar.
- **Criminal Division Law Clerks**: Conduct legal research, assist in drafting jury instructions and legal opinions, draft legal orders, manage the motion calendar, and perform case management functions.
- **General Equity (Chancery) Law Clerks**: Conduct legal research, review case files, draft orders, proofread opinions, and assist in emergent temporary restraining order applications.

### Education and Experience Information:
- **Education**: Applicants must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) by the time of their law clerk appointment. The program targets recent graduates, defined as those who have graduated within the last four years.
- **Skills**: Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential. Mediation skills are considered a plus, and it is helpful to have completed a mediation course prior to starting the clerkship.
- **Experience**: Individuals who have not engaged in the practice of law and have strong communication and analytical skills are encouraged to apply. The program is designed to provide hands-on experience in a court environment.

### Salary Information:
The salary for law clerks varies by court and is based on a 52-week court term with an additional one-week or two-week overlap. The salaries for the 2024-2025 Court Term are provided as follows, with the 2025-2026 salaries to be determined based on funding availability:
- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge and Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal) and Chancery Division (Family), and Tax Court: $58,900

### Additional Information:
- **Remote Work**: The position may qualify for up to four days per month of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings.
