Job Title: Intellectual Property Counsel

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive patent counseling to assigned divisions, working closely with global research and development teams to develop and secure patent or trade secret protection for innovation projects.
- Develop and implement project-specific patent or trade secret strategies that align with business objectives in collaboration with division personnel.
- Manage international patent portfolios for assigned divisions, including overseeing the work of outside counsel.
- Conduct and manage patent clearance searches and perform freedom-to-operate analyses to guide business teams.
- Review, negotiate, and draft agreements related to intellectual property, and review IP clauses for commercial agreements in collaboration with in-house legal counsel.
- Assist the Head of IP and General Counsel with patent litigation tasks, including patent claim analysis, litigation strategy, settlement positions, and responding to discovery requests.
- Provide training and education to employees on important patent issues, including patent laws and patent searching.
- Demonstrate strategic value by applying IP legal skills to corporate, business, and other matters within the company.
- Supervise outside counsel and manage related budgets as necessary.
- Identify areas of risk within the company's IP strategy and propose and lead the implementation of mitigation strategies.
- Assist the broader US legal team with overflow projects as needed, including contract drafting.
- Travel and work extended hours as necessary.
- Work in an organized, detailed manner under tight deadlines, exercising sound judgment to make appropriate decisions.

Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor degree and licensed to practice law in at least one US state or currently in law school pursuing a JD.
- PhD in Technology or a relevant field is highly regarded.
- Entry-level experience ranging from 0-4 years.
- Approximately 1-3 years of relevant patent experience as a patent attorney or law student, including experience at a major law firm and/or corporate in-house legal department. In-house legal department experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in the chemical industry, life sciences, and/or manufacturing industry is strongly preferred but not required.
