Working Conditions
Work is performed in a typical office environment. The employee is exposed to video display terminal for prolonged periods of time on a daily basis. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Knowledge of:
Principles, practices, methods and materials of legal research and analysis.
Civil law. Some assignments may require specialized knowledge of criminal, family, juvenile or probate law.
Legal terms, procedures, forms and documents used in court cases.
Government Code and other statues related to Court process and rules of Court.
Ability to:
Plan, organize and use traditional and computerized legal research methods.
Research, analyze and appraise a variety of legal documents.
Research legal issues and present clear and logical arguments and statement of facts and law.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Set priorities and allocate resources to meet needs in a timely, effective manner.
Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive written materials.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of Court staff and management, judicial officers, and others encountered in the course of work.
Law Clerk - Limited Term: Conduct legal research, analyze motions and other matters on calendar to expedite court calendars, prepare written recommendations there on, and perform related duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited school of law with a Juris Doctor degree.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct legal research independently, apply the law to the facts and reach a sound, well-supported conclusion about the motion or other matter.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judicial officers and others in the workplace.
Ability to manage competing priorities effectively and meet deadlines.
Limited term employment for up to 30 months with formal performance appraisals at 6 and 18-month anniversaries.
Prohibited from practicing law, receiving legal fees, and/or representing a party as counsel during employment as a Law Clerk with the Court.
