NJOPD is currently offering internship opportunities for law students interested in gaining hands-on experience in the legal field. As an intern with NJOPD, you will have the chance to work alongside experienced attorneys, investigators, and staff, providing our clients with top-notch legal representation. Our internships are available year-round and throughout the state of New Jersey.
About NJOPD
**Members Only** is committed to providing exceptional legal representation to indigent individuals at both the trial and appellate levels. Our team of attorneys handles a wide range of cases, including criminal offenses, child abuse and neglect allegations, involuntary psychiatric commitments, Megan's Law tier classification, post-conviction relief, and more. We also represent clients in Recovery Court and Intensive Supervision Program matters, as well as through our Forensic Science Unit.
Internship Program for Law Students
Our internship program is open to 2Ls and 3Ls who are looking to gain practical experience in the legal field. As an intern with NJOPD, you will have the opportunity to assist attorneys and staff with various tasks related to the representation of our clients, including legal research and analysis, drafting motions and briefs, trial preparation, client and witness interviews, and more. You may also have the chance to observe and participate in courtroom proceedings and attend training programs.
Law students who have completed at least two years of law school may also have the opportunity to appear in court under the supervision of NJOPD attorneys.
How to Apply
To apply for an internship with NJOPD, please email your cover letter, resume, and writing sample (for law students only) to our Internship Coordinator, Dana Lane, at ****. In your cover letter, please include the following information:
- Why you are interested in an internship with NJOPD
- Your practice area(s) of interest
- Any geographic preferences or limitations
- Your availability, including anticipated start/end date, number of hours, and schedule
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and must be submitted between June 15th and July 31st for fall internships, between October 15th and November 30th for spring internships, and between December 15th and April 15th for summer internships.
Please note that in addition to submitting application materials, all applicants must also undergo an interview with our regional office and/or Internship Coordinator, complete confidentiality and ethics paperwork, and be screened and approved before being offered an internship with NJOPD.
