Legal Secretary/Assistant The candidate will undertake a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. Will work under the supervision of paralegals and attorneys and will provide support in legal cases. Provide administrative support to one or more paralegals and lawyers. Effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and witnesses. Conduct thorough statistical/ documentary research. Source and verify important case information. Draft and file various legal documents such as motions, notices, petitions, etc. Answer phone calls, take notes/messages and redirect calls when appropriate. Maintain and update inventories of contact details. Help maintain calendar and follow up for meeting of deadlines and provide timely reminders.
The candidate should preferably have proven experience as legal secretary. 1+ year of experience is preferred. Knowledge of legal terminology and court system helpful. Must have knowledge of MS Office software programs (such as Excel, Word, Outlook), PDF software (highlighting, conversion, labeling) and ability to learn and work with legal technology (court-filing and information retrieval computer systems, etc.). Typing skills of 50 WPM or higher is required. Proficiency in communication, including correct use of English grammar is required.
