Job Title: AVP, Property - Litigation Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage litigated claims in accordance with company litigation management guidelines.
- Collaborate with the internal legal team on the selection of counsel, case evaluation, and litigation strategy.
- Present information to Claim and Underwriting management regarding specific claims and broader trends.
- Develop alternative case resolution strategies as needed.
- Create and update litigation plans.
- Prepare and update legal expense budgets.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the development of training for internal and Third-Party Administrator (TPA) staff.
- Maintain contact with TPA claim staff, business line leader, underwriter, defense counsel, and program manager for Program claims.
- Provide feedback to Property Claim management on trends or patterns related to litigation drivers.
- Investigate claims and review the insureds' materials, pleadings, and other relevant documents.
- Identify and review applicable statutes, rules, and case law for each jurisdiction.
- Review litigation materials, including depositions and expert reports.
- Travel within the United States to attend mediations, trials, and other proceedings related to claim resolution.
- Negotiate claim resolutions.
- Maintain a diary of all claims, post reserves in a timely manner, and respond quickly to claims inquiries from insured parties, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management.
Education and Experience:
- First-party Commercial Property litigation experience, preferably in key states such as Florida, Louisiana, and Texas.
- Significant working knowledge of the insurance industry and insurance claims operations, particularly in commercial property claims, property policy construction, ISO Commercial Property forms, and property insurance coverage evaluation/interpretation.
- At least 5 years of experience handling claims litigation.
- Proper licensing in all applicable states.
- Knowledge of legal concepts and processes.
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal), influencing, evaluation, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal and external peers and other professionals across organizational lines.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to engage in active strategic discussions.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
- Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Juris Doctor (JD) required.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10-15% of the time.
- Reasonable proximity to a major airport.
Salary Information:
- Base salary range is $107,900 to $175,000 per year.
- Position is incentive eligible.
- Total individual compensation (including base salary, short, and long-term incentives) will consider several factors, including geographic location, scope and responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability and specialization, as well as business needs.
- The above pay range may be modified in the future.
