Job Overview:
A well-established law firm based in Kansas City, MO, seeks a driven Workers' Compensation Associate Attorney to join its growing legal team. This role involves managing all facets of workers’ compensation matters, including direct client engagement, litigation, negotiation, and strategic case planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Missouri workers’ compensation laws and demonstrate the ability to handle cases independently while coordinating with support staff.
Duties:
Manage a caseload involving workers' compensation matters from initiation through resolution
Conduct regular client communications to update on case status and answer inquiries
Prepare and review legal documentation, including pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements
Represent clients in hearings, depositions, mediations, and related proceedings
Oversee legal staff and paralegals assigned to cases, ensuring procedural compliance
Interact with insurance adjusters and opposing counsel to negotiate settlements
Maintain compliance with all applicable labor laws, regulations, and codes
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in Missouri
Minimum of 1 year of relevant legal experience
Availability to attend legal proceedings in the Kansas City area
Preferred:
Active license to practice law in Kansas
Education:
Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Missouri Bar admission (mandatory)
Kansas Bar admission (preferred, but not required)
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of workers’ compensation statutes and procedures
Strong time management and organizational abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced litigation environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint
Client-focused approach with empathetic interpersonal style
