Job Title: Corporate Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Corporate Counsel at the company will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal guidance and representation across a variety of practice areas. Key responsibilities include:
Civil and Business Litigation:
- Manage a caseload of civil and business litigation matters from inception to resolution, including discovery, depositions, and document production.
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, legal briefs, and other court documents for trial court and appellate courts.
- Represent the company in state and federal court, arbitration, and mediation proceedings.
- Develop litigation strategies in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee and manage outside counsel to ensure alignment with company goals.
- Experience in drafting and arguing appeals at the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court is a plus.
Municipal Litigation and Regulatory Compliance:
- Represent the company before municipal bodies, including zoning boards, planning commissions, and city councils.
- Handle municipal litigation, appeals, and negotiations related to ordinances, zoning, and permits.
- Advocate on the company’s behalf in administrative hearings, BZA presentations, and appeals.
- Provide legal guidance on compliance with municipal regulations and ordinances.
Appellate Practice:
- Draft and argue appeals before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.
- Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare compelling appellate briefs.
- Analyze trial court records to identify appealable issues and craft persuasive arguments.
Real Estate and Collections:
- Negotiate, draft, and review contracts, including purchase agreements, lease agreements, and construction contracts.
- Handle real estate-related disputes, including landlord-tenant matters, property zoning issues, and environmental compliance.
- Provide legal representation in collections matters, ensuring timely resolution.
General Legal Support:
- Stay up-to-date on changes in relevant laws and regulations that may impact the company’s operations or litigation strategies.
- Offer strategic legal advice to internal teams on risk management, litigation exposure, and legal best practices.
- Maintain accurate and organized legal records and conduct high-level legal research to provide strategic advice.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree; licensed to practice law in Michigan.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in civil, business, or municipal litigation. Expertise in real estate law, zoning, and municipal ordinances is preferred. Familiarity with federal and state courts and appellate practice is necessary. Trial experience is a plus but not required.

- Ability to manage multiple cases/projects simultaneously with a results-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Salary Information:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $80, to $120, per year.
- Performance-based bonuses and 6-month reviews for salary adjustment.

Schedule:
- Full-Time
- Normal business hours with additional time as needed to address current legal matters.
- 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday.
