Bankruptcy Paralegal (Hybrid)
Job Responsibilities:
The Bankruptcy Paralegal will be responsible for managing bankruptcy cases from the initial intake through case or matter resolution. Key duties include conducting client interviews to gather financial documents and assess eligibility for filings, preparing and filing petitions, schedules, statements, and other required bankruptcy documents using case preparation software. The role also involves preparing fee applications, drafting, preparing, filing, and serving motions, objections, reaffirmation agreements, and other court pleadings. The paralegal will review creditor claims, income and expense disclosures, and repayment plans. Communication with clients, creditors, counsel, court personnel, and trustees to coordinate filings, hearings, and other necessary matters is essential. Additionally, the paralegal will monitor case deadlines, court notices, and correspondence, maintain accurate and organized electronic case files, and assist with post-filing activities, including plan modifications, discharge preparation, and case closure.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have an associate degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent education/experience. A minimum of 2 years’ experience working on debtor-side bankruptcy matters is required. Proficiency with bankruptcy preparation software and PACER/ECF filing systems is essential, along with a strong knowledge of Federal District and Bankruptcy Court local and federal rules and procedures. Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are necessary. The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision is required, as well as a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with legal document management and billing software, such as iManage and Aderant, is preferred. Familiarity with legal billing and time tracking is also advantageous.
