Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides administrative support for high-volume practice, assisting lawyers and other legal personnel such as law clerks and paralegals.
- Prepares legal documents and correspondence, including patent documents, and engages in general correspondence with clients.
- Maintains a working knowledge of US patent practices to ensure compliance and effective management of legal tasks.
- Initiates conflict checks, opens new client files, closes inactive files, and assists with file transfers to maintain organized and up-to-date records.
- Manages dockets and calendars, providing critical assistance in meeting deadlines and ensuring timely legal actions.
- Maintains official client files within the law firm’s document management system to ensure secure and efficient file management.
- Adheres to all law firm procedures and policies to maintain consistency and compliance across all tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic legal environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Intermediate competency with MS Office and general computer knowledge to efficiently handle administrative tasks.
- Acute attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in legal documentation and correspondence.
- Ability to manage multiple and varying deadlines, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills.
Physical Factors:
- The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Working Conditions:
- The employee is expected to work the hours necessary to complete their work, which may occasionally exceed a typical 40-hour work week.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Alternatively, six months to one-year related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
