Job Title: Patent Agent (Medical Devices)
Job Overview: A leading law firm based in Irvine, CA, is looking for a highly skilled Patent Agent to join its intellectual property team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, and performing prior art searches, with a focus on medical devices and bioengineering. A background in mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, or similar fields is advantageous.
Duties:
- Draft and prosecute patent applications related to medical devices and bioengineering.
- Respond to office actions issued by the USPTO and other patent authorities.
- Assist in preparing opinions on patentability, infringement, and validity.
- Conduct prior art searches and analyze findings to support patent applications.
- Work closely with attorneys and other team members to provide legal support in intellectual property matters.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in patent law and industry trends.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent in medical devices, bioengineering, or related fields.
- Familiarity with patent prosecution procedures, including office action responses and prior art searches.
- Proficient in understanding technical concepts in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or artificial intelligence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Education:
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in bioengineering, engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
Certifications:
- Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
