The **Members Only** is seeking a highly experienced attorney to serve as a Special Counsel in their Office of the Inspector General for the NYPD Protest Policing Monitoring Unit. The successful candidate will play a vital role in overseeing the implementation of a recent litigation settlement related to the NYPD's response to protests in 2020.

DOI is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country and is dedicated to combating municipal corruption. As a Special Counsel, you will have the opportunity to serve the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for City government, agencies, employees, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage and conduct reviews of the NYPD's response to demonstrations
- Draft document and information requests
- Analyze relevant records, video, and information
- Conduct interviews of NYPD officials and members of the public
- Coordinate with staff on review and field activities
- Interact with senior NYPD officials
- Assist the Inspector General in reporting to the DOI Commissioner and the Collaborative Review Committee
- Draft and edit reports

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active bar membership from any of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands
- Minimum of three years of recent full-time relevant legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar
- Experience with police oversight or equivalent transferable experience preferred
- Excellent legal writing, research, and analysis skills
- Substantial project management experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with DOI personnel and other agencies
- Knowledge of NYC operations, policies, and practices a plus
- Highest professional and ethical standards

Salary and Benefits:

- Salary range: $91, – $144,
- Full-time position
- Three-year and three-month contract funded for the duration of the settlement's monitoring period
- Eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs
- Potential for New York City residency after 2 years of continuous employment
