Job Title: Law Clerk, First Judicial District
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct review and research of laws, court decisions, briefs, and other legal authorities.
- Confer with the judge on legal issues, prepare legal memoranda, and assist with drafting orders for the judge.
- Attend court sessions to observe proceedings and record case information.
- Perform courtroom duties during arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials, which may include calling the calendar, swearing in jury panels and witnesses, and assisting in documenting court proceedings.
- Perform administrative duties within the judge’s chambers.
Education and Experience Information:
- For employment as a Law Clerk, candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school at the time of employment.
- For employment as a Law Clerk 1 (student), candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and be currently enrolled in and have completed at least one year of law school training at an accredited law school.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of laws, court rules, and sources of legal reference.
- Knowledge of court practices and procedures.
- Understanding of legal terminology and concepts.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people including attorneys and pro se parties.
- Ability to research complex legal problems or questions and apply legal principles.
- Ability to represent the court in a respectful manner.
- Proficiency in the operation of a personal computer with word processing and legal research software.
- Ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience, and understanding in the course of work duties.
Salary Information:
- Minimum Salary: per hour ($65,876 per year)
- Mid Salary: per hour ($73,665 per year)
- Maximum Salary: per hour ($81,432 per year)
- Remote or Hybrid Eligible: Yes - Hybrid

- If hired prior to graduation from an accredited law school, candidates will be hired into the Law Clerk I job classification until graduation.
