Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide litigation support to attorneys in the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel for attorney disciplinary cases and miscellaneous cases against the State Bar.
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents including pleadings, petitions, discovery requests, and judgments.
- Conduct legal research and gather pertinent data, documents, and records to support attorneys in case management and trial preparation.
- Facilitate communication with court personnel, complainants, and witnesses through verbal and written means.
- Attend trials and appellate arguments, take notes, maintain exhibits, and summarize trial testimony and depositions.
- Organize and maintain documents for presentation and filing purposes.
- Respond to inquiries from complainants, respondents, witnesses, and the public, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
- Prepare and organize trial notebooks.
- Maintain a docket control system using case-tracking software and external tracking systems.
- Assist the Statewide Compliance Monitor with ensuring respondents comply with disciplinary judgments.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience Information:
- Certification from an accredited paralegal program or a minimum of three years of legal assistant experience in civil litigation is required.
- Technological competency is necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe Pro, Zoom, Teams, and Outlook Express.
- Experience with case management software is preferred.
- Knowledge of legal research, legal drafting, legal terminology, and legal concepts is required.
- Advanced writing skills and knowledge of civil court procedures are essential.
- Proven written and oral communication skills are necessary.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Salary Information:
- Minimum Starting Salary: USD $46, per year
- Maximum Starting Salary: USD $52, per year
