Senior Data Protection Counsel The candidate will support key internal (e.g., IT, HR, Finance) and external (Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Support) functions, including by implementing risk management and compliance systems; developing policies, standards and guidance; supporting audits, assessments and certifications, including vendor risk management; and facilitating diligence and transitions in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures as needed. Will support sales cycle, including developing and managing options for Company agreements (including with customers, partners and vendors) and negotiating agreements alongside commercial counsel. Work with members of the Legal Team across the Company, as well as corresponding functions in Security, Engineering, Product, Marketing and other groups to ensure consistent application of corporate policies and processes in compliance with agreements and with global data protection laws. Assist Chief Privacy and Digital Risk Officer in preparing reports to C-suite and Board as needed. Must have a high level of business acumen in order to work successfully with business partners to find solutions that meet Company goals and satisfy legal and regulatory requirements. Draft data protection policies, standards and guidance for internal functions and for products and services. Support sales processes, including assisting global commercial legal teams in deal negotiations and partnering with Security organization to address customer and partner requests for documentation. Support security audits and data protection certifications. Assist with development and implementation of information security program and incident response plans. Implement systems to track risk assessments and legal approvals for products and systems. Assist with development and implementation of partner/vendor privacy and security risk management program. Review system implementations for compliance with laws and Company standards. Participate in reviews of Company cyber-insurance coverage.. Maintain current knowledge and research, as needed, of industry best practices and changes in law and regulations that may impact Company data protection policies and practices. Support Chief Privacy and Digital Risk Officer in preparing reports to management and Board as needed. Assist in Privacy and Security-related diligence and support transition/integration in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures as needed. Support ongoing internal and external Privacy and Security training, in coordination with appropriate teams (e.g., with Security for internal trainings).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should preferably have Juris Doctorate, undergraduate technology or engineering degree. Must have 5+ yearsâ€™ experience required in data protection or security practice, either as a lawyer or in risk management role, preferably in a technology environment. CIPP, ISACA or equivalent certification is preferred. Strong writing, editing and speaking skill is essential. . Extensive background in computer software/cloud and understanding of technology is essential. High level of business acumen to work with business partners to find solutions to business needs that comply with applicable law is essential. Strong working knowledge of global data protection law and practice is essential. Awareness of industry trends and marketplace changes in technology, particularly cloud computing is essential. Should be fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages beneficial due to the global nature of the Company.
