Legal Services Consultant, Employee Benefits
Duties: Research of applicable ERISA, tax, and state laws and regulations pertaining to retirement, health and welfare and other employee benefit plans, programs and arrangements. Provide employee benefits law support for mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. Assist in the drafting of qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, health and welfare arrangements, and other employee benefit plans, programs and arrangements. Assist in the drafting of summary plan descriptions and other required disclosures for employee benefit plans, programs and arrangements. Assist with processing of participant claims and appeals, Qualified Domestic Relations Orders, and Powers of Attorney. Assist with review of Form 5500 filings. Prepare IRS determination letter application filings, IRS Voluntary Compliance Program application submissions, and other regulatory filings. Assist with benefit plan nondiscrimination and other testing. Assist with payroll-related compliance and benefits administration questions. Support the development of employee benefits communications directed to employees. Consult with internal and external legal counsel as appropriate. Monitor legal developments in employee benefits. Report to the Senior Associate General Counsel, Employment & Benefits in the Corporate Legal Department.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Paralegal certification; Experience providing employee benefits support for mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures; and experience in a corporate legal environment preferred. 10+ years of legal experience in employee benefits matters. Strong working knowledge of employee benefits law. Strong organizational and project management skills. Strong communication, drafting, and research skills. Resourceful problem solver with a positive, can-do attitude. Ability to collaborate and build relationships across the enterprise and to gain and maintain credibility with internal and external partners. Ability to model corporate values of integrity, compassion, relationships, innovation and performance.
