Director, Patent Counsel
Duties: Oversees the day to day operation of Group Patent Program. Working with inventors to identify patentable inventions at group, evaluate those inventions, work with outside legal counsel to draft formal patent application files, work with the US Patent and Trademark Office and foreign patent office to get the patent application granted as a patent. Manage the maintenance of granted patents. Supports the IP Team by presenting important patent prosecution matters, creating the annual patent report and supporting patent litigation and licensing matters. Invention collection and evaluation, patent application drafting, patent prosecution worldwide, and patent maintenance. Analyzing non-CME patents and portfolios. Support patent assertions by or against CME Group. Support quarterly meeting. Evaluate, select, and manage the online tools used to manage the CME Group Patent Program. Support licensing of third party patents and licensing CME patents to third parties.

Requirements: A comprehensive understanding of the law regarding software and financial services patents. An understanding of financial derivatives is preferred.
