Staff Attorney 58716 67523 The candidate will perform a broad scope of duties to support the Legal Unit in all aspects of its practice. Tracking cultural constituent compliance with long-term agreements, such as licenses and operating agreements for use of City premises, restrictive covenants, and other filings relating to City-funded capital and equipment projects at cultural facilities. Assisting the Legal, Agency Chief Contracting Officer (ACCO), and Programs Units in tracking compliance with insurance requirements for cultural grantees. Reviewing and tracking title reports and title insurance policies for capital projects. Reviewing capital eligibility requirements relating to City funded capital and equipment projects. Assisting with agency responses to requests under Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). Tracking legislation from Federal, State, and Local legislative affairs. Performing legal, legislative, and policy research, at the direction of the General Counsel. Drafting research summaries and memoranda, at the direction of the General Counsel. Attending City Council hearings of relevance to the agency and cultural community. Preparing for and attending meetings with and on behalf of the Legal Unit. Coordinating media releases and/or permissions requests. Creating, updating, and maintaining legal files, and assisting with records retention schedules. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements. Assisting with development and execution of legal events and presentations, as needed. Helping to coordinate continuing legal education (CLE) for the attorneys in the Legal Unit. Coordinating distribution, signature, and receipt of legal documents. Liaising with cultural organizations seeking technical assistance. Supporting the operations of the Legal Unit, which include project management, coordinating with other City agencies, counseling agency staff, and responding to inquiries from constituent organizations and the general public.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below. Should have 1+ year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any State Bar; or Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment. To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or 2+ years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or 3+ years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Work experience in a public interest, in-house, or law firm environment, and a deep commitment to the arts and serving New York City’s nonprofit cultural community is desired. Experience working for City government and/or nonprofit clients is preferred. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is must.
