Attorney Iii
The candidate will provide legal advice to agency personnel and the administration for the Division of Children and Family Services. This will include interpreting complex federal and state constitutional, statutory and regulatory laws and recognizing the impact of legislation on the agency and its programs. Will assist with drafting regulations and conduct privilege reviews for compliance with public records requests and discovery requests. Will represent the Department of Health and Human Services in juvenile court proceedings across the state and may serve as the primary juvenile court attorney in the Northern Service Area. Will provide litigation support to the agency and Attorney General's Office, as needed, which may include the handling of appeals filed with the Nebraska appellate courts. 3 years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies are required. Graduated from an accredited school of law and admission to the Nebraska Bar and experience practicing juvenile law are required. Provide legal support to the agency in juvenile court proceedings; interpret and apply statutes, case law, decisions of court/administrative hearings, federal and state regulations, and administrative rules and policies on a variety of legal issues; effectively communicate and interact with legal associates, other government employees, and the public; conduct legal research; formulate legal opinions and recommendations based on legal research; identify critical elements of legal questions or issues; and use a computer for word processing and research are required.
