Senior Attorney RESPONSIBILITIES: Senior attorney — Supervision of staff attorneys, work with Executive Director to develop appropriate cases, help develop legal theories, play a major role in the litigation; Staff attorneys — Work on legal research and the development of legal theories; Research specific areas of child welfare practice and law to identify the areas in which litigation-based reform is necessary; Work on developing and implementing intensive, fact-based litigation, and in monitoring court-ordered reforms; Analyze and compile child welfare data and initiate and remain in contact with stake holders in specific geographic regions throughout the country, in consultation with the Executive Director.
Qualification and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS: JD Degree. Graduate from ABA-accredited law school. Admission to the bar in any jurisdiction. Senior attorney —10+ years of federal court litigation experience for senior attorney applicants. Staff attorneys — 3+ years of litigation experience for staff attorney applicants. Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills. Should have 10 years' experience in federal court litigation; should have 3+ years litigation experience and excellent writing skills. Knowledge of child welfare systems is desirable. Demonstrated interest in public interest work. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, listen and learn from feedback, and make decisions in accordance with established policies. Attentiveness to detail and to overarching goals. Ability to thrive in a busy, multi-tasking, and time-pressured environment. Accuracy, integrity, and discretion. Good sense of humor.
