Attorney III The candidate will be performing a wide array of house counsel services for the Departmentâ€™s health care delivery systems including legal research; reviewing State Plan Amendments; reviewing proposed bill analysis, statutes and regulations; drafting and editing regulations; and preparing legal opinions and memoranda for program staff, as well as Division Chiefs, Deputy Directors, and the Directorate within the Department. Will be assisting and supporting the Attorney Generalâ€™s Office in defending some of the most complex and politically sensitive lawsuits in state or federal courts with minimal supervision. Researching legal issues, developing litigation strategies, assisting in the drafting of pleadings, briefs, and declarations; and responding to discovery requests. Assisting Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) with depositions, witness selection, and trial preparation; as well as pursuing or defending appeals in state and federal appellate courts. Must have active membership in the California State Bar. Background and/or interest in health care law is preferred. Experience drafting, reviewing and editing legal documents including State Plan Amendments, regulations, and legal notices is a plus. Litigation and/or house counsel experience is a plus. Strong written and oral communication skills are preferred. Experience advising clients on sensitive political issues is a plus. Deadline: 4/24/2018.
