Deputy County Attorney II The candidate: Provides legal counsel to county officers, county departments, and other political subdivisions and special districts, as assigned. Performs legal research and renders written opinions to county officers, county departments, and other political subdivision such as school districts, and fire districts, as assigned. Files legal actions and provides legal representation in contested matters and civil litigation in state and federal trial courts and courts of appeal on behalf of County and other political subdivisions, as assigned. Drafts and reviews legal documents for County departments and officials as well as other political subdivisions as assigned. Files civil and criminal complaints against violators of County ordinances. Prepares the County's defense and advises County officials in settlement of claims. Reviews reports of cases decided by State and Federal courts of appeal and prepares legal briefs and memos. Consults with other attorneys and attends staff meetings and training seminars as required. Maintain knowledge and skill levels in current case decisions and legislation. May be assigned to work directly with county officers, county departments, and other political subdivisions and special districts as knowledge and experience in specific practice increases. May perform criminal attorney duties as assigned. Should have current active membership in the State Bar of Arizona. Preferred qualifications include civil litigation and/or criminal trial experience in the Arizona Court System; appellate experience; local government public practice experience.
