ProfileAttorney Responsibilities may include: Act as front-line legal counsel and manage a team of attorneys who provide general legal support to a variety of business clients across the Skype Consumer engineering teams; Drive deep engagement with business clients to understand technical engineering concepts and proposals; Provide regulatory and other compliance guidance for products and features offered by the Skype Consumer organization and work with outside counsel and other members of Microsoft’s legal team to resolve regulatory issues and litigation matters; Draft and negotiate transactional documents, including agreements relating to the development, distribution, and licensing of software and services; and Develop and implement processes, templates and best practices and share knowledge across the wider Microsoft legal community.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have excellent academic credentials, a J.D. degree or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school or equivalent non-U.S. law degree, and an active license to practice law. Experience in intellectual property counseling, licensing and transactions and in the software industry is preferred. Should have 10+ years as a practicing attorney, preferably with both law firm and in-house experience. Should have strong regulatory experience in privacy and U.S. and/or international telecom regulations is preferred. Have a good working knowledge and experience advising about online legal frameworks, consumer laws and open source software. Excellent writing and communication skills including the ability to communicate complicated legal and policy advice clearly and succinctly to a variety of different audiences from a diverse set of disciplines (lawyers, project managers, engineers, business executives) and cultures. Sound judgment that incorporates strong legal analysis, a pragmatic approach, and consideration of business goals, risk tolerance, and stakeholder priorities. The ability to work collaboratively, negotiate, and generate consensus among those with diverse points of view. Comfortable with ambiguity and a bias for action in a fast-paced, matrixed environment. Familiarity with Skype and communications technology. Project management skills and the ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in the face of competing priorities. A desire to grow and take on new challenges as they arise.
