Director, Labor Relations The candidate will be developing and maintaining sound and healthy labor and employee relations within a Corporate and global labor relations footprint. Will be monitoring employee and union relations at sites to facilitate early issue identification and intervention as appropriate. Developing and implementing union awareness programs and appropriate Company responses to union campaigns through planning, positive employee relations programs, site vulnerability assessments, campaign strategies, legal defense, policy review, education and communications. Maintaining good and healthy relations with existing labor organizations. Developing the required frameworks necessary to ensure compliance with labor laws globally. Identifying and addressing labor relations issues in acquisitions and divestitures. Negotiating and/or assisting with the negotiating of labor contracts. Administering collective bargaining agreements. Processing administrative agency charges. Processing grievances and arbitrations. Training management in labor relations developments, practices and labor contract administration. Providing advice and counsel to the human resource organization and management on employment/labor related matters, including understanding and application of company policy and procedures, as well as escalation to appropriate senior department management and other stakeholders. Implementing Corporate Employee Relations policies and directives. Maintaining records, preparing reports and composing correspondence relative to work. Conducting specific research and investigation into employee issues as necessary. Propose programs, solutions and systems to support employee and labor relations policy and strategy. Counsel all levels of human resource professionals as necessary on application of labor relations, employment/labor laws and policy. Monitor non-union facilities to assure those facilities maintain appropriate employee relations practices to maintain an environment conducive to postive employee relations. Maintain healthy relations with existing unions including fair labor contract administration. Negotiate resolution of disputed employment matters, whether through grievance process, agency or private resolution. Process and manage arbitration and administrative litigation efficiently to ensure minimum liability on the part of the Company. Represent the Company in agency, private, third-party and intracompany situations in an effective and dignified manner. Cooperate as appropriate with all other enterprise functions to assure satisfactory resolution of issues. Implement employee and labor relations strategy. Monitor compliance with international, national, federal, state and local employment and labor laws and regulations. Minimize risk/exposure to large monetary settlements for labor contract violations, agency charges, or unlawful treatment. Assisting with special projects as needed.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree. Should be license to practice law required (applicable jurisdiction). Multi-lingual, particularly in Spanish is preferred. Should have 7+ years’ experience at a large law firm, boutique labor law firm, or as labor in-house counsel. First chair experience in negotiating collective bargaining agreements and conducting labor arbitrations is essential. International labor experience is preferred.
